Satin Black or Satin White? 3000K or 6500K? This guide explains every combination and which one suits your space.

Frame Finishes

Satin Black and Satin White

HEXA hexagon systems are available in two powder-coated aluminium frame finishes. The choice is purely visual, both are equally durable and available in all colour temperatures.

Satin Black
Satin Black
The most popular finish. Satin Black creates bold, high-contrast geometry against white and light-coloured ceilings. The matte surface hides fingerprints and minor dust between cleans, and ages cleanly over time. It is the defining look of a premium garage or workshop build.
  • White and light grey ceilings
  • Garages, workshops and car spaces
  • Commercial showrooms and studios
  • Any space where maximum visual impact is the goal
Satin White
Satin White
Satin White blends with white ceilings for a clean, minimal result. The frame recedes, drawing the eye to the light output rather than the hardware. It works well in residential spaces, offices and hospitality environments where the lighting should complement rather than dominate.
  • White ceilings where a seamless look is preferred
  • Residential living areas and home gyms
  • Office and hospitality fitouts
  • Spaces where the light matters more than the frame

Colour Temperature

3000K to 6500K: What Each Option Delivers

Colour temperature is measured in Kelvin (K). Lower numbers are warmer. Higher numbers are cooler and brighter. The table below maps each HEXA temperature to its best-suited applications.

Temp Appearance Best Suited To Character
3000K Warm white, amber toned Living areas, bedrooms, restaurants, hospitality, display spaces where ambience matters Relaxed, warm, similar to halogen. Less suited to high-task environments.
4000K Neutral white, balanced Home gyms, studios, retail interiors, meeting rooms, spaces that are both functional and social Clean without being cold. A versatile middle ground for spaces used for work and leisure.
5000K Bright white, slightly cool Commercial workshops, car detailing, photography studios, medical and trade environments High clarity and colour accuracy. Noticeably cooler than 4000K. Preferred for precision work.
6500K Daylight white, crisp and clear Garages, workshops, car showrooms, industrial spaces, any environment where maximum visibility is critical Most popular HEXA option. The closest match to natural daylight. Makes colours appear true and maximises visual clarity for detailed work.

HEXA is one of the only hexagon LED brands in Australia offering all four colour temperatures across the full range. Whether you need the warmth of 3000K for a residential space or the clinical clarity of 6500K for a professional workshop, every HEXA system is available in your preferred colour temperature and your preferred frame finish. That combination of choice and consistency is what sets HEXA apart from single-option imports.

How to Choose

Choosing the Right Combination

Three questions will narrow your choice quickly. Work through them in order.

01
What is your ceiling colour?
White or light ceiling? Either finish works, Satin Black gives maximum contrast, Satin White is subtle. Dark or timber ceiling? Satin Black blends better. Satin White on a dark ceiling can look stark.
02
What is the primary use of the space?
Garage or workshop where you are working on vehicles, equipment or detailed tasks? Choose 6500K or 5000K. Home gym or studio? 4000K or 5000K. Living area or hospitality? 3000K or 4000K. When in doubt, go one step cooler than you think, it is easier to adjust lighting ambience than to replace panels.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frame Colours and Colour Temperatures FAQs

What frame colours does HEXA offer?
HEXA hexagon LED systems are available in Satin Black and Satin White powder-coated aluminium frame finishes. Both are equally durable and available in all four colour temperatures.
Which frame colour is better: Satin Black or Satin White?
Neither is objectively better. Satin Black creates bold contrast and a premium industrial look, best on white or light ceilings. Satin White blends with white ceilings for a cleaner, more minimal appearance. Both are equally durable. The choice is purely visual.
What colour temperature is best for a garage?
6500K (daylight) is the most popular choice for garages and workshops. It provides the highest visual clarity, makes colours appear accurate and maximises visibility for detailed work. 5000K is also a strong choice for those who prefer a slightly less cool tone.
Can I change the colour temperature after buying?
No. Colour temperature is determined by the LED components and cannot be changed after purchase. Choose your colour temperature before ordering. If you are unsure, contact the HEXA team for a recommendation based on your specific space.
Does HEXA offer 6500K in Satin Black?
Yes. All four HEXA colour temperatures, 3000K, 4000K, 5000K and 6500K, are available in both Satin Black and Satin White frame finishes.
What is the difference between 4000K and 5000K?
4000K is a neutral white that balances warmth and clarity, comfortable for spaces that are both functional and social, such as a home gym or studio. 5000K is noticeably cooler and cleaner, preferred for high-task environments like commercial workshops and car showrooms where colour accuracy and visibility are the priority.
